The Windsor of Ocala has been busy enjoying a fun, hot summer!

Cinco de Mayo was a festive day at The Windsor of Ocala. The Life Enrichment Room and Reflections were festively decorated as we celebrated at our Fiesta. The residents enjoyed Mexican cuisine, trivia and music. When asked how the party was, the answer was unanimous...MUY BUENO!

All of The Windsor mothers enjoyed sipping their tea as they were honored at a lovely Tea Party. The Lif Enrichment room was beautifully decorated with vintage lace table loths, antique tea cups and fresh hydrangeas.

The Windsor of Ocala residents celebrated National Senior Fitness Day. We held a Basketball "Hoop Shoot" contest as well as a Walk-A-Thon. Conestants ranged in age from 60 years to 102! All contestants received ribbons for their efforts and are living proof you can be fit at any age!

Memorial Day Weekend was fun-filled at The Windsor of Ocala. The fun began with Memorial Day Trivia and Poetry and an old-fashioned BBQ prepared by Chef Justin. We sang patriotic songs and enjoyed a buys ride to Highland Memorial Park and the Veteran's Park in Ocala. We finished off the weekend with a game of Bingo and a sing-a-long by the piano in the living room.

On June 14 we celebrated Flag Day with a special presentation by The Angelo Santos V.F.W.

The Windsor of Ocala held its 1st Annual Pet Show on June 16. Proud residetns showed off their "Cool" Cats and "Hot" Dogs. It was a "howling" success, as all pets received an award!

Donuts with Dads was a sweet way to start off Father's Day at The Windsor of Ocala.

Raymond and Margaret McHenney celebrated their 61st wedding Anniversary on June 24th. They were married in Jackson, Michigan and went to Niagra Falls and New York City for their honeymoon. While in New York they visited the Statue of Liberty and saw "Break the Bank" on Broadway. Their secret to a successful marriage is to work as a team. Ray went to work and brought home the money...and Margaret managed it!

On June 23rd The Windsor of Ocala hosted the 2nd Annual "Good Old Summertime" Fashion Show. Modeling in the fashion show came easy To Merle Carpenter who was a fashion model in the 1940's. Her son, Steven, grandaughter, Stacey, and great-granddaughters, Elizabeth, Sarah and Rebecca enjoyed seeing Nana walk the runway!

July 4th was a day of celebration at The Windsor of Ocala. We enjoyed watermelon after playing Yankee Doodle Bingo and dined on an All-American meal complete with apple pie. We may not have had fireworks, but the day sure ended with a Bang!

We helped celebrate the Ice Cream Cone's Birthday on July 23. The ice cream cone was introduced at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904. One of our favorite ways to cool off in the hot summer is outings to Bruster's Ice Cream in Ocala.

Upcoming Events

-Experience an afternoon of tropical delights and entertainment from the islands by joining us for our 2nd Annual Luau in Paradise on July 29th at 3:00pm. Dress for the tropics and be entered to win one of our many prizes!

-Come travel back in time with us and join the fun at the Back to School Sock Hop on August 19th at 2:00pm. This is a family event, so bring the children. There will be games, food and fun! Prizes will be awarded fo rthe best 50's attire!

-You also are cordially invited to be our guest at our monthly English Tea Party on August 23rd at 2:00pm. It is a great way to meet new friends as you chat over a cup of tea and enjoy delicious teatime treats.

The Windsor of Ocala is sponsoring its first Spring Fashion Show, "Puttin' on the Ritz," presented by The Carriage Closet. It will take place on Thursday, April 7th, at 2:30.

Join The Windsor in honor of National Eye Health and Safety Month with an informative seminar featuring our guest speaker, Opthamologist, Dr. Croley, on Wednesday, April 20th from 2-4.

You most certainly will want to RSVP to our 2nd Annual Legendary Art Experience Gala with local artists in conjunction with The Marion County Cultural Alliance on Saturday, April 30th, from 10-2. There will also be pottery demonstrations by students from Madison Street Academy of Visual & Performing Arts.

The Windsor of Ocala would like to thank Mid Florida Medical for hosting our Physician Party in December. We had a wonderful attendance and a great time. Mid Florida Medical was gracious enough to supply the refreshments and joined in the celebration of the holiday season.

The Windsor of Ocala is now hosing an Alzheimer's Support Group the 3rd Tuesday of every month and our first group began on January 19th. Please join us for our next session on February 16th, between 4:00-5:30 p.m. Our sessions are open to the public and we encourage anyone that has a family member affected by Alzheimer's Disease to join us. Together we can make a difference!

The Windsor of Ocala hosted our "Let's Talk" series on January 26th. "Let's Talk" is an educational series with different topics each month. "Let's Talk" is held on the last Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. and is open to the public. Please join us for our next "Let's Talk" on February 23rd.

The Windsor of Ocala hosted a VA Benefit Educational Seminar for Wartime Veterans and surviving spouses on January 27th. This seminar assisted Veterans and their families in gaining their benefits for assisted living. Keep an eye out for our next one to be held in March.

Steve Rushing is our "ever so handy" Maintenance Director. He is married with two sons and is a native of Ocala. Steve enjoys fishing, gardening and relaxing at the beach.

Barbara Giles, our helpful Administrative Assistant, was born and raised in Ocala. She is married with two sons, and enjoys cooking, traveling and beach get-a-ways.

Sherri Demko, our Health Care Coordinator, welcomes the opportunity to assist our residents with all of their wellness needs. Born in Miami, Sherri enjoys the beach, reading and spending time with her five children.

Marty Roberson is our lovable Residence Director! A native of Ocala, Marty has a husband, two children and twin grandsons. A 3rd generation University of Florida graduate, she enjoys the Arts, cooking, gardening, singing and enjoying the beautiful outdoors!

Linda Townsend will serve our residents as Marketing Director. Born in Staten Island, New York, Linda and her husband enjoy hiking, scuba diving and being in the outdoors.

Lauri Pilarczyk is our Life Enrichment Coordinator and is ready to "get you up and movin'!" She has lived in Ocala for 30 years and has a son and daughter. Lauri enjoys cooking, exercising and weekend trips on her motorcycle!

Justin Cavalier, our Executive Chef, will dazzle you with delicious entrees! Born in Ocala, Justin has a wife and daughter, and enjoys boating, the beach and spending time with family and friends!

As the old cliché rings out... "times flies when you are having fun", well, we are having a ball!

The Windsor of Ocala was once again delighted to partner with our Ocala Public Library! On Saturday, May 16th, a pleasant group from Ocala came and enjoyed author Shelly Fraser Mickle, one of Florida's own, reading bits of her Barbaro 'American Horse'... what a fun presentation! The audience was a mix of all ages from babies to grandparents & all loved the story telling followed with light refreshments and Ms. Mickle book signing. The Windsor of Ocala has its very own signed copy to place in our own Windsor library!

Love Letters

May 29th and May 30th, Marty, The Windsor of Ocala Residence Director, was on stage at the Marion Cultural Alliance for the Arts. 'Melissa' & 'Andy' came back to life in "Love Letters" a sweet tender reading of 50 years in letter writing. The proceeds from the two evenings brought additional funding for 'MCA'.

Culinary Combat

Debi, The Windsor of Ocala Marketing Director, enjoyed an evening of great food at the annual "Culinary Combat" event on May 16th. All of the proceeds from this great evening went to support Kimberly's Cottage, a local shelter for children.

Marty Roberson, a lifelong resident of Ocala, brings with her nearly 15 years of experience and understanding of the assisted living industry to The Windsor of Ocala as Resident Director. Roberson’s reputation in the assisted living industry has been established assisting hundreds of families in finding positive solutions to aging issues; supporting their transition into their new home that bring a stronger quality of life. “The foundation and center point of The Windsor philosophy toward stewardship, servant hood and caring” said Marty, “are just a few of the reasons I am privileged to lead Windsor of Ocala as Residence Director”.

You could say Marty’s passion for care giving began with her two children, Cori and Lindsey. A couple years later came Lindsey’s cat, Chloe (who stayed home when Lindsey went away to college), then Keegan the dog, and finally Marty’s twin grandsons (they are adorable – and not a bit spoiled by Grandma!). Now that the kids are grown, you can find Marty outside doing a little gardening, or maybe watching the game on TV – the University of Florida is her and her husband Wayne’s favorite team! And if she breaks into song and dance, it’s because her true love lies in acting – she even has a degree in theatre.

Debi Thomas, originally from Boston with family ties to Ocala, is excited to make Ocala her permanent home as Marketing Director for The Windsor. “The Windsor of Ocala’s philosophy on care, compassion and commitment to seniors instantly swayed my decision to come and work in Ocala,” said Thomas. “It’s evident that Windsor of Ocala’s Pillars of Practice comes from the heart. As an assisted living and memory care provider—and Florida’s best—The Windsor has established a long-term, proven dedication to care.”

The prior experience Debi has in the assisted living industry as well as her specialized background with Alzheimer’s and dementia care directly aligned with Windsor of Ocala’s focus of their “Reflections” program. “Reflections” is dedicated to enhancing the lives of the residents affected by the disease through life enrichment activities, support and mutual respect.

Although she still roots for The Boston Red Sox, Debi and her 11 month old Golden Retriever, Calli, love their new home in sunny Ocala. Visiting her Dad in Ocala was always a treat, and now that she is only minutes away she truly feels at home. Calli, a therapy dog, will get to put her training to use assisting the residents at The Windsor. A tomboy at heart, Debi loves to head outdoors with Calli and relax with a hike or even spend the weekend camping.

Reflections Program
Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or other memory impairments is a very personal, loving dedication to service. It requires service for specific and individual needs. More often, the resident with memory loss needs assistance with life's daily activities including personal care but may not have an acute medical condition requiring around the clock skilled nursing or instruction. Finding that unique combination of physical setting and specialized care is a journey traveled by many families. At Reflections, our trained staff works closely with family members and friends to assemble a "Life History" identifying the personal experiences of each resident's life. Through the "Life History," we get to know the personality behind the person, fostering a one-to-one association more like "friend to friend" rather than "staff to patient." Details and events from your loved one's past become "shared" memories and experiences serving as a foundation for activities, communication and the development of friendships built on support, understanding and mutual respect.
